An here is what I think has made the team smile more than anything. For some reason they have all had an issue with my shop behind my house in Rio Vista. So here is the new Home of WCBA Racing. It is my shop up north. It is very convenient for every one up in Idaho and Oregon but a bit of a hike for me.
![]() Interior ![]() and another of the interior ![]() It will probably take more time to get things done now. They have way to much room to loose things and last I heard they were going to add couches and some other things to the shop. They'll never get anything done now. |

Thought I would give an update on the shop.
To clarify, because I have been asked numerous time. The shop is in Oregon and I have a place in Idaho. The miss use of where the shop is because both places are about 1 mile from each other. The shop is in Annex Oregon and the place I have up there is in Weiser Idaho. Usless info I know, but the question has been ask quite a few time so I thought I would clarify it. I've moved all of my fabricating equipment form Rio Vista up there while I build a real garage behind the house. I know no more blue tarp shop. Most of my team is highly disapointed about this. So the shop is getting pretty much dialed for equipment with movning everything I had here in CA up there. The shop has way to many welders now and multiple plasma arcs, lathes, presses and my bender. We have a frame table just haven't got it put in yet. I purchased a new 18k bendpak two post lift. So this will help with quite a few things. I settled on the 18k primarily because it will also lift the F350 loaded with now problem. Also I got at the same as the 12k lift so every thing worked out. Between it and the over head lift getting things in the air make life easier than it was at my "shop" here. We installed a new 34 cfm comperssor so with it and the other one I have there, air shouldn't be an issue. I also got a new tig setup so I will be brushing up my skills with it when I have time. I'm still looking for a mill, just haven't found what I want yet on a good buy. Dan |

The other added feature in the shop, has nothing to do with equipment or fabricating. It has everything to do with comfort. Most think I'm a bit touched to start with, and this will confirm it to them, to the other though what more could you ask for.
I need a place to stay when I fly up there. I usually stay at my Dad's across the street in the 5th wheel. Its not the best especialy in the winter and if other family is there seeing dad it can be a pain. There was a 20' X 40' storage space above the offices in the shop. Storage up stairs always just become a junk room everything goes up but no one ever goes back up to get things. This was how the space was when I puchased the shop. So I decide to turn it into a 1 bedroom apartment. We started in january and it is just about finished. Out side the apartment door I built a 14' X 40' deck that over look the shop. Some pics of the apartment. This picture is of the north side of the shop, when we started on the apartment. The south half is where all of the equipment is. ![]() Here is the same shot after we finished the deck area. Ya I know we haven't clean up yet. ![]() More pics in the next post. |

I designed the apartment and picked the finishes, so any issues there come my way. My dad and brother did most of the work. They framed it, plumbing and electrical rough and did the drywall and finish carpentry. I added some effort when I could get up there. Other WCBA race team members that added their crafts to the build were Marty and his brother Chad did all of the tile and carpet. The apartment had central heat and air.
Here is the apartment. To start the deck area ![]() Yes I know it messy, its a construction project out here still. ![]() The front door to the apartment. Pretty simplistic.

I probably went a bit over on the interior for a shop apartment. But if your going to even consider building an apartment in the top of your shop you might as well do it right. Hard surfaces all the way from the front door to the bathroom so clean up is easy. Washer and dryer so you don't have to take dirty close on the airplane home. Full kitchen and counter area to eat at. You never know it might one day be a home.
Here are the pics View as you walk in through the entry door. Entry and step up to the kitchen ![]() Another picture of the kitchen. ![]() Laundry area on the way to the bathroom ![]() Bathroom in the back, past the laundry area. With the furnace access on the left.

From the living room towards the entry.
![]() Where the bar stools go. ![]() Stone is going in on the counter tops this weekend and it should be finished. All that will be left to do is furnishing it. It should make a nice place to stay in when I'm there. I think my little brother plans to move in, I tiold him as long as he plan to sleep on the deck when I'm there. ![]() Dan A few more pics here http://www.wcbaracing.com/OregonShop/ |

It's amazing how next weekend can turn into 3 months later. Any way I made it back up to the shop this weekend. We got a bit of prep done on the racer and some more quality time in on the shop apartment.
Finally got the counter tops finished, installed the sink and the stove. Everything is up and running now. We only have the one window over the sink to get in, but ran out of time. I did stay in the apartment this trip and everything is working great. Nice to be able to just walk upstairs at 1:00 in the morning when you finally quit for the night. All that is left in the apartment is the one window and finish furnishing it. Here are a few pictures of how the counter tops turned out. ![]() ![]() ![]() Dan |

Not sure if I'll ever get to spend as much time as I would like there. I did build with the idea in mind, that if I'm ever in the posisiton to, it will be comfortable. The deck/balcany out side of it, that over looks that half of the shop is setup to be a game room.
Eventually that side of the shop will get redone also, and finished out to be an area for storage of my toys. Race Bronco, Bronco Crawler, Stock 67 bronco, 71 Bronco and eventually the Bronco prerunner I'm starting.
