Its getting time to reserve rooms.
I do not want to do a "last minute" thing like I was forced to in 2001.
I was talking to Chuck about me reserving a 2 room w kitchen at Papagayo for 2 weeks. And He suggested I bring the discussion over here.
Cost for two weeks will be about $1600. for one place.
I am hoping to have 4 Drivers for my racer this year. Part of the "deal" is that They will be in Mexico for the week before the race to practace on the truck and pre-run.
As I do not have a "toybox" or RV I will be forced to base myself out of ??
But I want to make sure we are all on the same page at the same place.
I am planning on being there Nov 7 threw 20th.
At this date I have no idea who I will be bringing down but am hoping for at least one 'chase" addition for OHR. To assist in Driver support.
Chuck mentioned a possable move Northward to ??? instead of Papagayo.

I would like to try the place just north of Papagayo's this year. The place Scott of PCI radio stayed at last year. Someone in our group took our radio up to him to make a change for us. I can call Scott if no one remembers the name of the place.
About who is going. When people ask about going I refur them to Jack. I volunteered Jack because Jack is very good at logistics and is the crew chief. We can not have everyone inviting everyone and then expect Jack to find a job for them. I think it would be easy to get 100 people to come down and hang out for a week but what we need is a group of people that can help. My suggestion is to be conservative about inviting people and let Jack know ASAP so he can plan on what they can/will do. A plan makes things run smooth and between Jack and Dan things run very smooth, I don't want to screw that up. Also I think Sam Sur will be racing with us and will be bringing some people, equip, pit/chase trucks so we do need to get to planning
This year Dan will be riding radio with me ( I think he has a death wish) so he will not be as involved with the support.
Tylor and his brother will not be coming down with us this year. Something about doing the adult thing and being responsible( I thing he is still upset about not being feed properly). At any rate they will both be missed. Both are easy to get along with, hard workers that would jump in and help anyway they could for as long as needed. I will miss them both.
Good news, Tim is doing well and he and Kathy plan to join us this year.
It looks like Jason will be in the army this year and Wes is working with another race team. So myself, Patric, Rick and Dan will be in our racer. I hope to have a boarder patrolman (Frank) come along, he speeks the lango.
Jack, let me know about any of the people that came last year if you can use them this year and I can get ahold of them for you.

Chuck, I appreciate you pointing people in my direction. We aren't short on volunteers this year for sure. What do you think the likelyhood of Sam racing with us this year is? That will affect the number of people we'll need.
Papagallo's seems to think they've got the only place in Mexico, I'd love to not stay there this year. Not that the place isn't nice, I just don't think they treat us very well. Wherever we go, if we can make sure there is RV parking, I can take the RV. It has 3 beds, so that wil save $$ on rooms.
Tyler and Tony aren't completely a no. Kathy and Tim will likely be helping with the cooking duties this year and during the race can hold the fort down. This means that they won't need to bring their EB. This means they can tow Tylers EB down and save him a bunch of $$. He's trying to save up and buy a house, I don't think he had a problem with the food situation last year (I fed them until we had a chance to go grocery shopping).
I'll put together a list of job's and who I see going into them soon and reply to this thread.
Planning is good.

At this time I have one confirmed driver That is Eric Hargus.
Am not sure where I will borrow a trailer this year but will be putting a brake controller on my truck.
I will have a "list" by end of Aug. but at the moment its just myself coming down. Mike H. May ? be driving down with me but even that is unknown at this time. The only thing I am sure of is that the Bronco is ready, That and I will be there if i have to sell my soul to a bank. :-)
One of my kids wants to come down with me but he may have a job conflict.
I am still planning on the time period of Nov 7 - 20th

Just FYI -- John and I are planning on coming down with our wifes as spectators for the 1000 this year. Part of the plan is get a better look at what's going on, but the primary mission is to get our better halves on board with the program. Right now they're sort of in denial  -- so I'll be trying to get reservations at a spa or some fu fu place like that. Let me know if you have any tips... My wife is bilengual, so she'll be a good podna' to have with us. She say's I'm bilengual also -- illiterate in 2 languages! :D

Nice. I don't know about spa's but the places we stay are on the ocean and are pretty nice (by Mexican standards). Clean towels, a kitchen, hot water (most of the time) and a great view.
Good luck getting the wifes on board. My wife gave in after I told her I needed something to work on and that I thought I could get a 5.0 in her mini-van with only minimal modifications. :)

Okay. I'll work with Chuck on the place we're staying to make sure that it has a good sized kitchen.

Jack RE: the locopony site its not listed as a "gallery" and i have no permissions to add pictures or text there anyway I did see how i could download pictures to my "site" in the "member gallery" tho.
Also regarding lodging. I know Chuck has some issues about Quintas Papagayo. The biggest deal with them is to have someone in our corner speaking Spanish when the rooms are requested. I have e-mailed them twice and not heard a reply yet.
I looked threw the internet to try and find the place he mentioned just north of there but all i found was a VERY spendy resort type.

I can have the wife call to make reservations.
Phil, there is a forum for you specifically. I'll have Dan double-check the permissions on it. Do you even see that forum?

philPhil, It not on the OHR site. It is here where you posted your rig status yesterday. That whole forum is for just you rig info and build discussion. Click Here -----> http://oldhorseracing.com/cgi/BRF/forumdisplay.php?f=19 (http://oldhorseracing.com/cgi/BRF/forumdisplay.php?f=19) and it will take you about 2 section down to your forum. Jack would like you to get in on the discussion in this thread.
Click here --->http://oldhorseracing.com/cgi/BRF/showthread.php?t=139 (http://oldhorseracing.com/cgi/BRF/showthread.php?t=139) I have also now given you permission to view the other catagories.
Jack the race build catagories have always been public forums Race info & builders forum are the private ones. Phil now has permission to those also.
It's actually not that hard to navigate a forum site, you just need to read. :)
